BOOK REVIEW
We will occasionally publish a review of a book that we think may offer help. We are starting with a book written by our founder and Chair fo the Trustees, Harry Moore.

A Lark Ascending by Harry Moore
Published by Longhirst Publishers
Comment by Tina Williams of TLC

This is the story of the illness and death of Laura Moore, the five year old daughter of the author of the book, Harry Moore. The account reflects the pain of the fight for Laura’s life from her first diagnosis, through the nightmarish events of her treatment, to the joy of her recovery and then to the disbelief and despair of her final relapse.
As Harry describes his thoughts about how Laura may be feeling, the depth of both his love and attachment to this little girl, as well as his loss as he plays his part in her battle, is so real that the reader is drawn in and the book is frequently overwhelmingly sad.
The emotions displayed in the book will be recognised and shared by many bereaved parents, both for those whose loss was as the result of an illness as with Laura, as well as for those where the death was sudden.
The final pages of the book are a thought provoking look at how, in the face of tragedy, we can make any meaning of our world. Harry feels Laura’s presence and describes what he believes she is saying to him. His strong belief in their continued bond which transcends death is beautifully encapsulated in the words that come to Harry as he grieves:–
‘love never dies. Who will kill it ?’.
